How it works

What is SteamSnipe?

The Steam Community Market lists every unusual effect of a hat under one single item, so a rare effect can sit there at the price of a cheap one. SteamSnipe reads every listing's effect, values it with backpack.tf, and shows you the ones listed below their value.

SteamSnipe is a market-data and alert service: your plan gives you access to the data and alerts. We never sell, buy, hold or trade any items, and there's no in-game currency on the site.

How do you decide a hat is "below value"?

We compare the Steam price with what that exact effect and hat is worth on backpack.tf, both in keys. Difference = backpack.tf value ÷ Steam price − 1. So +25% means it's worth a quarter more than it costs.

What do BUY ORDER, SUGGESTED and ⚠ STALE mean?

Suggested is backpack.tf's community price for that exact effect and hat. It's the value we use by default, because buy orders are often lowballs. Stale means that suggested price is more than a year old, so treat it with care.

Buy order is the best price someone on backpack.tf is offering to pay right now. We use it instead when it pays more than the suggested price, or when there's no suggested price.

Use the Value menu above the deals to compare every hat with something else: buy orders (fewer deals, but each one is backed by someone ready to pay) or the median, halfway between the best buy order and the cheapest sell listing on backpack.tf. The item type menu narrows the list to hats, taunts, taunt unusualifiers, war paints or weapons.

What does 🧌 Possible troll mean?

Some backpack.tf listings are jokes or traps, like a 5,000-key sell listing on a hat worth 50. We mark a deal as a possible troll when backpack.tf's own prices for that hat disagree wildly (a sell listing or buy order far from the suggested price), or when the gap is over 300%. Tick Hide possible trolls to leave them out. Always check the listing yourself before buying.

Is the Steam price the same as on Steam?

Yes. We show the price you pay on Steam, the same number the "Buy" button shows. Steam's own cut is already inside that price; it's taken from what the seller receives, not added on top for you. It's converted to your chosen currency with daily exchange rates, so it can be off by a few cents. Keys are valued at the Mann Co. Store key price, refreshed daily.

How are spells, paint and Strange handled?

Strange unusuals are valued as Strange. A spelled hat can use a buy order for that same spell when it pays more, and the listing tells you when it does. Paint and spells are shown as tags so you can judge them yourself.

Is every deal a guaranteed profit?

No. Prices move, buy orders get pulled, and other traders see the same listings. Always check the listing and backpack.tf before you buy. Items bought on the Steam Market also get a 7-day trade hold before you can trade them.

Safety

What do the confidence rating and "left Steam" line mean?

Every deal gets High, Medium or Low confidence: how much to trust its value. It goes up when a buy order covers the price, the suggested price is recent and the hat changes hands often, and down when the price is years old or nobody is buying. Hover or tap it to see the reasons. Under the hat's name you'll see how many of the same hat and effect left the Steam market in the last 30 days (bought or taken down) and their typical price. Do you need my Steam login?

Never. SteamSnipe never asks for your Steam login, password, API key or items. You sign in with Discord and we only see your username. If anyone asks for your Steam details in our name, it's a scam.

Do I buy through SteamSnipe?

No. Every deal links to the real Steam Community Market, and you buy it there yourself. We never hold or trade items.

Plans and payment

What's the difference between the plans?

Free shows deals 0–10% below value, 30 minutes late. Standard shows live deals up to 20% below value with alerts. Premium shows everything, including the biggest deals, spell and rare-effect filters, on-demand live checks, push notifications to your phone and market data on every hat.

Paid plans are at launch prices during our launch campaign. Prices go up when the campaign ends.

How can I pay?

By card through Polar, our reseller. You can also pay in TF2 keys: request it through the contact form or by email, and we'll send you a Steam trade offer (the key price is shown on each plan).

Can I cancel or get a refund?

You can cancel any time and keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. All sales are final: there are no refunds for change of mind or unused time, so try the Free plan first. See the Refund Policy.

Can I get deals on my phone?

Yes, with Premium: tap 📲 at the top of the deals page and allow notifications. New deals then arrive on that phone or computer even when SteamSnipe is closed. No app needed. On iPhone or iPad, first tap Share → Add to Home Screen, open SteamSnipe from there, then tap 📲. Standard has sound and desktop alerts while the page is open.

Can I choose which deals alert me?

Yes, with Standard (3 alerts) or Premium (25). Press 🔔 My alerts above the deals, or ☆ on any deal, and set a hat, an effect, a top price, a minimum % or a minimum gain in your own currency, like "at least $30". Only new deals that match one of your alerts ping you, on the page and (Premium) as push notifications. With no alerts set, every new deal in your plan pings you.

Can I get free days by inviting friends?

Yes. Get your link on the Invite friends page. Every friend who makes an account through it and subscribes gets you 10 free days (three friends = a free month), up to 180 days. If you're paying already, the days are saved for when your plan ends.

What data do you keep about me?

Your Discord username and ID, your plan, and payment status from Polar. Details in the Privacy Policy.
